2. Order Thysanura (silverfish, firebrats, bristletails). Silverfish are soft bodied and are best preserved in alcohol. Unfortunately, they loose their silvery appearance produced by scales covering their bodies when submerged in fluid. They run fast and may be difficult to capture. Look for them at night or in dark, moist dry situations. One species is commonly seen living in stressed or declining nests (mounds) of the red imported fire ant!
