Blattaria (Cockroaches)

22. AMERICAN COCKROACH, Periplaneta americana Linnaeus (Blattaria: Blattidae). Cockroaches can be collected
by making a trap out of a jar containing an attractant (e.g., peanut butter and banana) and coated on the top of the inside with
a mixture of mineral oil and petroleum jelly, and leaving it out overnight in an infested area. Adults should be killed by heat,
freezing or using killing agents and then mounted on a pin with the pin inserted through the right side of the shield behind the head
(pronotum). Nymphs and egg cases can be killed and preserved in alcohol.
